Are your habits serving you?

Hey my loves,

Are your habits truly serving your higher self? Or have you romanticised something that actually isn’t good for you?

It’s so important to romanticise your life and find magic in the mundane and this is something we speak about on this podcast but it’s important to remember that not all habits are good for you and it can be very easy to romanticise habits that may not be the best. Think having coffee first thing in the morning, being “busy” all the time and buying an entirely new wardrobe for euro summer (eek!)

Here are some of my top tips when it comes to deromanticising habits that are not serving you:

  1. Acknowledge the Reality: The first thing you need to do is accept that not all your habits are good for you. Once you accept that not all your habits are good for you it will be a lot easier to identify which ones need to change.
  2. Challenge what you are consuming on social media: Most of the time we pull habits from social media and media we are consuming. It’s important to have a look at what content you are consuming and what habits you are adopting because of this.
  3. Focus on the Long-Term Outcome: Shift your attention from the short-term gratification associated with these habits to the long-term consequences. Consider how these habits will impact your future self and whether they align with your goals and aspirations.
  4. Seek Diverse Perspectives: Engage in conversations with people who have overcome similar habits or possess different viewpoints. By hearing other stories you will be able to gain a better perspective of what you are doing.
  5. Experiment with Alternative Behaviours: Challenge yourself to break the cycle by experimenting with healthier and more productive alternatives. Replace the romanticised habits with actions that align with your personal growth and well-being. Have a look at the positive impacts this has on your life because this will reinforce the good habits.
  6. Find some support from friends or family: Surround yourself with people who support your desire to deromanticise these habits. Share your goals and progress with them, as their encouragement, accountability, and alternative perspectives can help you to carry on.
  7. Be Patient and Kind to Yourself: Breaking long-standing habits is not an easy journey. Recognise that it takes time and effort to make lasting change. Be patient and kind to yourself throughout the process, focusing on progress rather than perfection.
  8. Remember your why: Constantly check back in with yourself and remember WHY you are doing this & how

Here are some journal prompts you can use to decide if your habits are serving you or not:

  • How does this habit contribute to my physical, emotional, and mental well-being?
  • Does this habit align with my core values and principles?
  • Does this habit support my next level self?
  • How does this habit influence your relationships with others?
  • Does this habit help you progress towards your long-term goals and aspirations?
  • Can you maintain this habit consistently without feeling overwhelmed or burned out?
  • Does it fit into your lifestyle in a manageable and sustainable way?

We unpacked all of this in our most recent poddy episode so if you’re wanting to delve a bit deeper into it you can listen here.

Love always,

G xx
