Surrender is the new hustle…

How do you go when it comes to surrendering? Surrender is something I have always struggled with especially since I am a bit of a control freak - IYKYK. Essentially, surrendering involves completely letting go and trusting the universe that everything will work out for me better than I could have imagined.

Surrender - what an amazingly powerful word. It often engenders the thought of weakness and cowardice. In my case, it required all the strength I had to be brave enough to follow the invisible into the unknown. - Michael A. Singer, The Surrender experiment.

I’ve been reading Like a Mother by Emily East & absolutely loving it. We also recently interviewed her on the podcast if you’re keen to listen.

A concept she wrote about in her book that really resonated with me is about how surrender becomes the new hustle when you become a mum.

Surrender as a mum means letting go, trusting the universe and embracing the unpredictable journey that is raising a child. It’s a challenge to release expectations and be in the present moment. Surrendering is an active choice that requires strength and vulnerability. It creates space for growth, balance, and transformation. Embracing surrender in motherhood allows us to thrive, find joy, and honour the beautiful journey of raising our children. It’s a testament to our courage and deep love.

Here are my top 5 tips when it comes to surrendering:

Embrace the Present Moment:

Practice mindfulness and bring your attention to the present moment. Let go of worries about the future or regrets about the past. Fully immerse yourself in the here and now.

Release the Need for Control:

Recognise that there are aspects of life beyond your control. Instead of trying to micromanage every detail, trust that things will unfold as they are meant to. Allow space for spontaneity and flexibility.

Practise Letting Go:

Identify attachments and expectations that are causing you stress or holding you back. Release them with compassion and surrender the need for specific outcomes. Embrace the freedom that comes from detaching yourself from rigid expectations.

Cultivate Trust:

Develop trust in yourself, others, and the universe. Believe that things will work out for the best, even if the path is uncertain. Have faith in your ability to navigate challenges and trust in the support and guidance available to you.

Practice Self-Compassion:

Be kind and gentle with yourself throughout the surrendering process. Recognise that surrendering is not a sign of weakness but a courageous act of letting go. Treat yourself with compassion, patience, and understanding as you navigate this journey.

Remember that surrendering is a journey and there is no “destination”. It takes time and practise to be able to fully embody the art of surrender. Be patient with yourself and celebrate each small step you take towards embracing surrender in your life.

Love always,
