Why I Won't Be Jumping on the Celery Juice Trend

OK. I’m gonna address it.

It’s time to talk about #celeryjuicing.

Hands up if you’ve been hearing all about the miracle of celery juicing on social media these past few months? Same. This “miracle juice” pops up in conversation at my gym, at my local whole foods store, and all over Instagram and YouTube, and I’ll go right ahead and say it’s probably one of the most popular diet trends circulating the health and wellness scene right now.

If you’re late to the party, here’s the low down on celery juice:

Anthony William (or more commonly known as The Medical Medium) is a well known author and best seller who wrote the original Celery Juice Movement book. The Medical Medium gets his medical information by talking to spirits, and it’s of his belief that you should be drinking roughly 8 oz of celery juice every morning because it cures acne, digestive issues, anxiety, and even extreme diseases and medical issues (such as heart health, slowing cancer growth, etc). Basically, celery juice is the cure to everything!

GFs, this is a topic that I absolutely HAD to bring up with a very important guest & friend on the Rise and Conquer Podcast; qualified Nutritionist Nina Gabriela in episode 2.

The reason I wanted to bring it up with a qualified individual was because there is no much misleading information on the internet, that can be easily misinterpreted or easily confused.

This is what Nina had to say:


I think the important thing to keep in mind is that there is no such thing as a miracle cure or a miracle food, and nothing is going to magically cure all of these things. If you enjoy drinking celery juice and it makes you feel good, then 100% drink your celery juice!”


From a nutritionist’s perspective, she also raised a good point by saying that celery juice and celery juice alone will not suddenly transform you into a place of magical health. Additionally, Nina says that most often, the health benefits people do see from drinking celery juice is a result of the fact that people have introduced a healthy habit into their lifestyle, which in turn fosters other healthy habits.

GF’s, you will know by now that I’m not a fan of dieting or health trends and I believe strongly in both intuitive eating and letting my body’s intuition and biofeedback guide me to my healthiest, happiest self. This is why I felt I had to jump on my blog and talk about this trend with you, and the reasons for which I won’t be quick to think it is the be all end all.

1. DIETING AND HEALTH #TRENDS ARE NOT SUSTAINABLE, LONG TERM SOLUTIONS

If you’re serious about finding long term, sustainable and healthy solutions to maintaining a balanced and nutritious diet, jumping on every diet or health trend that pops up is not the way to go about it! I encourage you GFs to keep your minds and your eyes open, take what you read on the internet with a grain of salt, and most importantly do your research before determining that it’s the right fit for you. Also realise that you can 100% try a ‘diet trend’ just make sure you are doing it for the right reasons.


2. I PREFER TO EAT A BALANCED DIET

I don’t follow dieting or health trends anymore because I’ve learnt that I can get all the nutrients, vitamins, minerals and antioxidants my body needs through a diverse, wholesome and healthy balanced diet. If you really LOVE drinking celery juice, then go crazy! It’s a great vessel for getting in your nutrients etc, however it’s important to realise that just because it’s trending, it doesn’t mean it’s the only solution to getting your RDI (required daily intake) of nutrients into your system. I always make sure that I get in my recommended daily intake of 5 serves of veggies and 2 serves of fruit daily which is MORE than enough to maintain a healthy, happy body. Eat the rainbow GFs!

3. DIETING HAS A NEGATIVE LONG TERM IMPACT ON OUR BODY

I don’t know one person who hasn’t failed a diet at one time or another. As humans, we are literally wired against dieting and that comes back to our natural survival instincts! But every time you try and fail a diet, or cheat, or plain give up… it has an impact on your body! I could go on and on about the negative impacts of dieting, but instead I will summarise what I believe to be the main three long term effects.

1: when we start and stop diets constantly, it begins to exhaust and confuse our body’s natural functions.

2. How do you feel when you fail at a diet? Not good, right? We beat ourselves up over it, and even sometimes punish ourselves for failing a diet and it makes us feel like crap.

3. We develop a negative relationship with food. Something that is supposed to be there to fuel us and make us feel good, ends up making us feel resentful.


These are just a few of the reasons I don’t jump on every dieting or health trend that pops up in circulation. Not only is it exhausting to keep up with every new trend, but I am not a fan of the way my body feels and responds to jumping from one diet to the next.
